The Loopholes of Labeling
The term ‘organic’ has become increasingly trendy amongst foodies and whilst it’s great that so many of us are now paying more attention to the food that goes into our mouths, it also means that the buzzwords used on product labels are becoming more complicated and convoluted.
The result is that even the savviest of consumers end up confused and too often assume that organic means healthy when this is simply not the case.
Put simply, if you pick up a bag of organic potato chips, they are not healthy! Potato chips are potato chips and whilst they may taste better if organic, they are still as lethal to your waistline as their non-organic counterparts thanks to their high calorie count and levels of saturated fat. The key then, as with all good things in life, is portion control!
So how do you wisen up and make organic AND healthy choices?
By reading the nutritional information on the packaging … only then can you make good choices based on the ingredients themselves. Organic is only great when it’s also calorie-poor and nutrient-rich.
Enter organic superfoods and the greatness factor hits a whole new level!
Don’t worry if you’re not au fait with all the words on the box but try to stick to these two golden rules:
1. Don't eat what you can't pronounce. When foods contain ingredients that sound like they belong in a chemistry lab, they probably do!
2. Eat foods with fewer than five ingredients. The shorter a label is, the less likely it is to contain extraneous, artificial ingredients

Bio-grape Cheese Lovers Packs
 These organic grape-based pastes and jams are truly more-ish. What really sets them apart though is the ‘bio-grape’ which is an extract from the skins of red grapes. The dark colour pigments from the grapes skins give these products an exceptionally high ORAC rating which stands for Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity.
What does this mean for you?
Foods with a high ORAC rating are exceptional antioxidant foods that fight the most threatening thing about aging - free radical activity.
Aging actually starts with the decay of cells caused by incessant hits of free radicals that various oxidation processes in the body produce. In addition to aging, free radical hits disfigure the cells and are largely responsible for the growth of abnormal cells that eventually run into the risk of cancer.
So if we want to slow aging and avoid the risk of life-threatening diseases, one of the things that should be right on top of the agenda is making sure you get enough antioxidant activity in the foods you eat.
The icing on the cake is that whichever flavour you pick, Chilli, Cabernet or Blueberry amongst others, they are a treat to taste and the perfect accompaniment to a cheese board!

Gourmet Grocer about to hit the Hills
It would be a tragedy to limit milK & HONEY to the Palm Jumeirah when we have loyal customers from throughout Dubai so we have other stores in the pipeline and next up is Emirates Hills.
